Every child needs the opportunity to engage their inner artist – or just make a colossal mess – and cake decorating can give them the perfect opportunity to experiment with colors, textures, and new tools to design a prized creation. Come prepared with plain cupcakes and equip your guests with decorating tools, icings, sprinkles, chocolate chips, marshmallows, and anything else that would provide a unique color or texture to add to the fun.
After a short lesson on using various icing tools, provided by you or a representative from your local craft store, encourage your young chefs to think outside the box, and allow parents to decorate alongside their children to create a unique bonding experience for your residents. After the decorating, provide prizes for the prettiest cupcake, most outrageous, most colorful, and best theme.
If your budget allows, purchase inexpensive aprons for each participant to enhance their “baking school” experience, along with a cardboard box so they can transport their culinary masterpieces home. Since guests will eat their creations, simply provide beverages. Prizes could include a gift certificate to a local bakery or a cake decorating kit.
