Trunk-or-Treat

Trunk or Treat FP

Full Page Flyer

Whether you have no kids in your community or all kids, clean out your trunks and get ready for some treating! You're never too old for dressing up and some candy, right? If you have kids in your community, odds are they're going to be out Trick or Treating – why not take this opportunity to build community?

Instead of everyone turning on their porch lights and excitedly awaiting those little knocks on the door, encourage residents to bring their cars to a designated parking lot, clean out their trunks, and fill them up with candy. If your budget is large, you could provide the candy. If you budget is small, make it a BYOCandy night.

Be sure to get the word out and let the trick or treaters (big or small) know! Do a best costume contest with a few categories: scariest, silliest, most DIY. You could even encourage neighbors to "dress" their trunks/cars and have a best dressed trunk contest with a give away for a free carwash/detail.

Don't forget the grub! There will be lots of candy, so that's pretty much covered. Check out our Fall Harvest Pinterest board for some fall themed eats and treats. Make it a party by inviting a local band or DJ to bring some live music to the event.

Happy Treating!

Fall Harvest

The thought of autumn just fills me with joy. I live for sweater weather (the clothing piece and the candle scent), fires, and spice smells. What's your favorite thing about the fall? If you're a mom, it might be that school starts! If you're a football fan, it might be the start of the season. There are a zillion reasons to be excited for this season, in my opinion. Here's a more traditional fall event with some fun, themed activities and decor. I chose leaves as a theme because I'm a leaf lover... Especially when they're full of Autumn colors. You could also do apples, hay, corn, gourds, or any combination.

Like I said, I chose leaves. You could collect some real autumn leaves from outside (cost $0.00) to use or purchase some artificial ones from a local craft store (don't forget your coupon). You can make this as fancy and involved, or simple and low key as your heart desires. Above are a few examples from our Pinterest board.

Click on the picture of the yummy food above for some fabulous fall recipes - rich butternut squash, stews, candied things, and so much yum! If your budget is large and in-charge, you could consider catering in or partnering with a local restaurant/chef so your guests can dine on fall-inspired eats.

If you are going to have little ones at your event, we've got oodles of crafty things, songs, and activities for them on our Pinterest board. Some are simple, some have glue, and we've even got some fun stuff for the wee-bitty ones. Leaves are a fun, tactile activity for kiddos to crunch, color, and throw!

I'm a drink kinda girl - I'd much rather consume my calories in liquid form. We've found some fun recipes for fall flavors to devour including fennel, cinnamon water, and pear things. Most are non-alcoholic, but if you're looking for some adult beverage inspiration, check out our Fall Cocktail Party Pinterest Board

For this event, you could do the traditional bobbing-for-apples-like activities or you could do some fun crafty things with leaves. We found some simple and some more involved. You could even include some of these in your event decor if you wanted to. Be sure to tag us  (@aptlife) in your photos on Instagram - We can't wait to see all of your fall things!

Pumpkin Carving Party

A pumpkin carving party is the perfect CARES event. You can make it kid-friendly or for grown-ups, you can do it on a shoe string budget or make it as elaborate as you want. It's something that's on everybody's fall bucket list, but if you're like me, the holiday tends to sneak up on you, and next thing you know it's the day before Halloween and you still don't have a jack-o-lantern. Here's the solution!

We've created a Pinterest board with ideas of how to spice up your party so you can get "glowing" reviews from your guests. Here are a few easy tips...

1. It's all about presentation. Display your pumpkin carving tools on a pretty tray or in stylish containers. You could use mason jars, galvanized buckets, or pretty vases.

2. Have a place for the seeds and "guts" to go. Again, pretty containers can be your friend and are so much more fun than a regular trash can. Plus, your guests may want to take seeds home with them to roast and eat later! (This is another great use for that butcher paper you bought after this blog post).

3. In addition to fall-themed foods (PS - there's a Pinterest board for that!), look for other ways to pull in your fall/Halloween theme. Something as simple as these googly-eyed solo cups can put a smile on your guests' faces.

During your party, make sure to take lots of pictures - they make perfect content for your community's Facebook page! You can also invite your guests to vote for their favorite pumpkin and offer prizes.

Event Flyers Galore

Have you checked out the free, editable event flyers on our blog lately?

We've decided to put all the event flyers from each blog post onto a Pinterest  board, Event Flyers Galore, so they can all be viewed in a "list" format. Based on CARES Team feedback, some of our teams wanted a list of event ideas, so our newest Pinterest  board will function as just that. Each flyer will link back to its blog post with more details and the downloadable version.

Cool, huh? We think so, at least.

Here's the link. Check it out, pin, and share!

Duct Tape Creations

Little known fact: Duck Tape makes over 100 different colors/prints of duct tape. Now, your life is complete...we know...ours too! When I was in middle school (no, I'm not going to tell you what year...) it was totally cool to make duct tape wallets. Is that still a thing? Probably not for today's tweens but for us older folks, it probably brings back some fond memories. Either way, crafting things out of duct tape is creative, fun, innovative, cheap... so let's have an evening dedicated to making duct tape creations!

You could supply the tape or have people BYO. You can have ideas on hand for people to make (a couple of things you made before hand or an ipad out for people to browse our pinterest board for ideas) and/or allow people to bring things they want to make-over: chairs, switch plates, etc. You could throw in a contest and have people vote on who made the best duct tape creation. You could make duct tape flowers for manager gifts! You can decorate your plastic cups/plates/serving dishes in fun tape if you want to go all out or make other decor out of tape itself!

Browse our Pinterest board for oodles of ideas, crafts, instructions, inspiration, etc! We beg you to tag us on Instagram (@aptlife) to see what you all come up with!

Happy Creating!

Halloween Party

Offer your residents an opportunity to stretch their budget and recycle old Halloween costumes through a costume exchange party. This event is perfect for residents of all ages and will provide a unique pre-Halloween event that won’t conflict with their already scheduled Halloween parties.

In addition to offering a place to exchange costumes, set up a pumpkin carving station and if desired, host a contest for best pumpkin, scariest pumpkin, etc. In addition to purchasing pumpkins and carving tools, you can also provide craft supplies to “bling” out your pumpkin, including rhinestones, paint, lace, and burlap.

Serve light snacks or candy and drinks – food isn’t the main focus of this party.
