The holidays will be here before we know it (and we can't wait!). It's time to start thinking about November events, and every year, we see more and more coordinators opting to celebrate "Friendsgiving" in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. We've pulled highlights and tips from those who have done it well and compiled them all here in one place to help you host the best Friendsgiving ever!

Set the Tone

the pearlSet the tone for a festive night with an inviting tablescape. Start shopping your local Dollar Tree and Target Dollar Spots for items like candle votives, decor pinecones and fall foliage, and other seasonal pieces that can be arranged along a table runner to create a centerpiece. We love these candle stick holders that come in multiple colors and these metallic placemats (pictured in the photo on the left.)

If you're going for an upscale feel, you might also consider using a fabric tablecloth, glassware instead of plastic cups, and plastic disposable plates instead of paper (these plates look like the real thing but are $0.50 each and reusable!).

If you don't have a large clubhouse space, consider moving the party outdoors and hosting it by a firepit, poolside, or in a courtyard. If there isn't space around one large table, consider amenity spaces where alternative seating is available, and you can create multiple seating areas.

Allow Food to be the Focal Point

When planning your menu, allow your food to be the focal point around which people can gather and connect. Friendsgiving is a great opportunity for a potluck-style meal, which also makes it friendly for just about any budget. Provide the main course and invite your neighbors to bring their favorite holiday dishes from their childhood, a special family recipe, or something that reflects their cultural background.

If you're catering or providing an entire meal, don't be afraid to think outside of the turkey and dressing box. Any family-style, buffet-friendly food will work great in this setting (think an Italian pasta feast or Mexican taco bar.)

friendsgiving5Celebrate Gratitude
No matter what the specifics of your decor and menu include, there is one key element to a great Friendsgiving: plenty of gratitude to go around!

Look for ways to carry a thread of gratitude through your evening and encourage and inspire your neighbors to celebrate the things they're thankful for. That might look like going around the table to share about the things you're grateful for, but it could be as simple as a small gift or note for residents to take home, letting them know that they are cared for and appreciated.

Friendsgiving is a perfect opportunity to send people into Thanksgiving week with a full belly AND a full heart.
