Do you ever wish you could be a kid again, just for a day? Here's your chance! Treat your community to the ultimate candy bar experience and invite your neighbors to build a box of their favorite treats to sweeten their week or share with a friend!
Decor: Colorful & Whimsical
Start with balloons! Get playful with colors and patterns. This is a cheap and simple way to create an eye-catching focal point as soon as your neighbors walk in.
Use glass or clear plastic bowls and containers to house candies sorted by type (and color if you want to take it to the next level!) The Dollar Tree or your nearest thrift store are great places to stock up on containers.
Next, use crates or boxes to create levels. (This is a great way to reuse items you have on hand from previous events.) Tassel garland and pennant banners add a fun touch!
Use Canva to create colorful and fun labels for each candy type. Make sure to list any potential allergens in each candy type, especially nuts.
The Candy: Classic Favorites and Nostalgic Throwbacks
Think back to your favorite candy as a child, and if you can, make sure to include that in your candy bar! Take an informal poll of neighbors and friends to get some ideas of other candy types that bring back sweet memories and include them in your candy line-up. Here's a starter list to kick-off your shopping:
- Tootsie Rolls
- Swedish Fish
- Sour Patch Kids
- Twizzlers
- Necco Wafers
- Regular and Peanut M&M's
- Skittles
- Jolly Ranchers
- Sweet Tarts
- Lollipops
- Rock Candy
- Gummy Bears/Worms
- Bite-sized Chocolate Bars
Be sure to include a variety of pre-wrapped options. For candy without wrappers, include plenty of scooping spoons or plastic tongs. Party bags, cardboard boxes, or even resealable bags like these are great options for residents to take their treats to-go.
The Vibe: Playful and Memorable
Invite your community to capture the fun of the moment and make new memories with a photobooth. Include candy-themed props! Remind your neighbors to tag your community and @aptlife when they post to social media. Set out board games or yard games to invite your neighbors to stay and hang out (Candy Land, anyone?!) Offer bottled soda or a fizzy mocktail to toast to a one-of-a-kind experience!
If you host a candy bar, we want to see your photos! What favorite candy are we missing from our list? Drop us a comment below and find us on social media @aptlife to follow along with the fun!
